# Setting Up Your Amazon Seller Account

Once your Ltd company is registered and your business bank account is open, it's time to create your Amazon Seller Account. This is your gateway into FBA — without it, nothing else matters.

Take your time with this step. Rushing the setup or submitting inconsistent information is one of the most common reasons new sellers get stuck in verification hell.

***

**What you'll need before you start**

Get all of this ready before you even open the registration page:

* Your company registration number from Companies House
* Your business bank account details
* A credit or debit card for subscription billing
* A passport or driving licence for ID verification
* A bank statement or utility bill as proof of address
* A brand new email address that has never been linked to any Amazon account — buyer or seller

That last one catches a lot of people out. Don't use your personal email. Create a fresh one specifically for your seller account.

***

**Choosing your plan**

Amazon offers two plans:

**Individual** — No monthly fee but you pay a per-item fee on every sale and you're locked out of a lot of features including Buy Box eligibility in many categories.

**Professional** — Around £30 a month. Unlimited sales, full feature access, Buy Box eligible, and you can list in restricted categories.

For anyone serious about FBA, the Professional plan is the only real option. The £30 is covered by your first couple of sales.

***

**Registering your account**

1. Go to **sell.amazon.co.uk** and choose to register as a business account
2. Enter your Ltd company name exactly as it appears on your Companies House registration
3. Use your company registration number when Amazon asks for business details
4. Add your business bank account and payment card
5. Upload your proof of identity and proof of address
6. Choose a store name — this can be different from your company name and can be changed later
7. Work through Amazon's onboarding questions:
   * "Do you have UPCs?" → Yes
   * "Are you the manufacturer or brand owner?" → No, unless you're selling your own brand

***

**Verification**

After submitting, Amazon will either approve you straight away or ask for a short video or phone verification. During this they may ask you to show your ID, confirm your personal and company details, and possibly show the last 4 digits of your payment card.

It usually happens within a few days. If it takes longer, don't panic — just don't open duplicate accounts or poke the process too much.

***

**Once you're approved**

A few important things to do straight away:

* Enable **two-step verification** — keeps your account secure
* Familiarise yourself with **Seller Central** — this is your main dashboard for everything

***

**Disabling foreign marketplaces**

This is important and a lot of new sellers miss it.

By default, Amazon may try to fulfil orders to other countries through something called the **European Fulfilment Network (EFN)**. This sounds useful but it can expose you to unexpected tax obligations and costs you haven't planned for.

To keep things simple while you're starting out:

* Go to **Settings → Fulfilment by Amazon → Cross-border fulfilment settings** and untick all EU countries
* Also go to **Settings → FBA → Shipping programmes and export settings** and turn off FBA Export completely

You only want to be selling to UK customers right now. Keep it simple.

***

**Product Liability Insurance**

Amazon requires all sellers to hold Product Liability Insurance. This protects you if a customer makes a claim for injury or damage caused by a product you've sold.

It's not optional — it's a condition of selling on Amazon. Cover starts from around £14.70 a month. Shop around for the best rate but make sure it's in place before you start sending stock in.

**If things don't go smoothly**

A few common issues and what to do:

* **Documents rejected** — double check that every name and address exactly matches your Companies House registration and resubmit
* **Verification delayed** — contact Seller Support with your situation rather than just waiting indefinitely
* **Subscription payment failing** — try a different card or check with your bank
* **Account flagged during setup** — don't open a second account, contact support and work through it
